Our services within the community canteen

23 April 2010 -

We would like to tell you how our organization developed, according to the needs that we could appreciate in our community, and from which we included new and better services for families.

  • Assistance
  • Formation
  • Promotion
Necessities Solutions
Many children came home every day to ask for food.
  • We opened the Children Dining-room “ESPERANZA” (HOPE) which feeds more than 150 children.
  • Illnesses, accidents, hygiene and personal care are left unattended due to ignorance. Plus the fact that many hospitals in the area can not attend the amount of people that go there daily and many of them are in critical conditions as regards lack of basic supplies (medicines, technology, disposable material and so on) and have insufficient personnel.
  • Emergency Sanitary Care.
  • Primary Health Care.
  • Further services:
    • delivery of children clothes and shoes
    • delivery of cleaning goods for mothers
  • Many families could not afford dinner.
  • There are alternating parent groups that prepare take out dinners for the families to share at night, acquiring a sense of responsibility and compromise at the same time.
  • Malnutrition causes severe deficient intellectual capacity with the subsequent tremendous impact on their learning abilities.
  • School Coaching. There is coordinated work with schools and pre-school institutes in the area. A better nutrition, the help of an ophthalmologist and the donation of eyeglasses have contributed to help children improve their learning skills.
  • Parents did not know how to prepare nutritious food for their children.
  • Cooking and nutrition workshops for mothers.
  • Teaching children how to eat nutritiously.
  • The critical socio-economic situation does not contribute to help families create learning and recreational opportunities essential to mental health and society integration.
  • Sport activities for children and adults.
  • Soccer School for children.
  • Outdoors Playing area: with slide, swings, soccer and basketball fields.
  • Board games, television and movies.
  • Monthly birthday celebrations.
  • Swimming pool in the summer, swimming lessons.
  • Increase in unemployment with its consequent lowering of the family group income. Some families depend on National Social Welfare subsidies, which is not adequate to supply for their basic needs since they have from 6 to 14 children each.
  • Specialized professionals teach families to work in workshops of carpentry, fabrication of crates, furnitures, ovens.... To final aim is for each family to be able to own an area of land where they can grow their own supplies as well as enough food to be traded by the community.
  • Many mothers do not even have a skill that would allow them to improve their economic situation, for example, making clothes, shoes, diapers for their family groups..
  • Workshop of Bijouterie, Espadrilles and sandals, Churros and backery for the mothers, which allows them to have a skill and to provide some things their families are lacking in.
  • The social situation promotes an increasing disintegration of the family, raises the levels of violence and marginalization, dissolve the power of initiative, participation, openness and social creativity.
  • A continuous and fluent dialog with the families, workshops and profitable activities.
  • These allow us to develop and promote new values and social practices, where solidarity, compromise and self-supply are the basic foundations.
